Veteran Insurance Man, Peter Dill, Park Avenue, Dies
Peter M. Dill, 76 years old, a veteran insurance broker of Indianapolis, died yesterday at his home, 3345 Park Avenue. Mr. Dill had been engaged in the insurance business in the city since 1890. Prior to that time he had been prosecuting attorney of Shelby and Johnson counties, and had practiced law in Franklin and Indianapolis.
Born in Morgan county, Mr. Dill moved to Shelby county when a young man. After serving as prosecutor of Shelby and Johnson counties in the early eighties he moved to Franklin. He came to Indianapolis in 1888 as the law partner of Myron Williams. In 1889 he practiced law in Wichita, Kas.
In 1890 he returned to Indianapolis and entered the life insurance business, being first associated with the Equitable Life Assurance Society of New York. He later represented other companies in Indianapolis and took the agency for the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company in February, 1908. He was local manager for this company at the time of his death.
For thirty-two years he had been a member of the central Christian Church, and had served as a deacon in that congregation. He also was a member of the Life Underwrtiers Association. Mr. Dill was the author of a umber of poems which have appeared in various magazines. His "My Indiana Hills" was contained in a book of contributions from Indiana authors several years ago.
He was married to Miss Flora Frazier June 21, 1881. Mrs. Dill and a duaghter, Mrs. Edith Dill Ford of Indianapolis, and two grandchildren and one great-grandchild are survivors.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the home. Burial will be in Crown Hill cemetery.
