    Obituary

    Opal Wesner Boss October 14, 1911 - July 17, 2008 Opal Wesner Boss died at her Grand Junction home July 17, 2008. She was born in Denver, CO October 14, 1911, to John and Clarinda (Hanson) Wesner and grew up in the lower valley on the Uintah and Rio Grande railroads in Mack. Children had free rein of the town, enjoying sledding and ice skating in winter and roller skating, hiking and picnics on the river in the summer. She enjoyed riding the train during switching and the family had td travel passes, traveling often to visit relatives in the Midwest. Opal graduated from Fruita Union High School in 1929 and was an avid tennis player. She married Theodore Boss in 1933 and they established their home on the Redlands. In 1942-433, s she cared for the "farm" and two children while Ted was a forward surveyor on the Alcan Highway. Opal was the last surviving charter member of the Redlands Women's Club. This group of Redlands women raised funds serving dinners and purchaseed thhe Redlands Community Club in 1936. This building became the community center and hosted square dancing, potlucks, school programs, service and social clubs. She was an active participant in the Women's Club, Redlands Sunday School, 4-H, annd many Redlands activities. She loved the Redlands. Opal and Ted traveled in the US and Canada, often camping, and she later traveled overseas alone. She loved animals, travel and reading, was an excellent cook, gardener, and seamstress. She was employed at Singer Sewing Machine Company and Outwest Bootery. Opal was preceded in death by her husband Ted (1980), daughter Clara (2002), sister Gertrude Lumbert (1959), and her parents. Survived by daughters, Betty Shoemaker of Fort Collins, Judidith (Wayne) Hopper, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a niece. Cremation has taken place. No services are scheduled. Contributions may be made to Humane Society of Western. Colorado, Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado or the American Cancer Society . Her family thanks all friends who visited, called, or wrote during her illness.
