She received her summons to enter into her eternal rest at 3:30 p.m. Monday, June 6, 1955 in the Community Hospital in Wahoo, at the age of 67 years 4 months and 15 days. She was baptised by Pastor F. N. Swanberg and confirmed in Grace Lutheran church, Swedeburg, April 19, 1903 by Pastor John Torell.

She was united in marriage to Mr. Theodore Anderson, February 13, 1913, who together with the following children, mourn her sudden departure from this life; one son, Milton of Rock Island, Ill.; two daughters, Betty Larson of Wahoo and Margaret Palm of Cersco; seven grandchildren. A daughter, Mildred, passed away in 1929 at the age of thirteenthru.

She has suffered from reoccurring attacks of bronchial asthma and has been in frail health and under the care of doctors for the past twenty-five years. Yet, out of her long illness, has come a blessing instead of a breakdown. In the crucible of physical affliction, precious gold of a sanctified personality was refined and of her it could truly be said as Shakespeare once wrote: "In illness not let me so much say, am I getting better of my pain? as, am I getting better for it?" Her swweet, winning personality, characterized by humility, with no thought of reward or recognition; her patience in all life's experiences; her faithfulness and devoted giving of self for loved ones; her emphasis upon the "one things needful" the joy she manifested when it was possible for her to worship in the House of God; and above all, her simple childlike and unswerving faith in her Saviour. "the same yesterday, now and forever" is a glorious heritage that she bequeaths to her loved ones and to her Church, exemplifying the eternal truth of "That to them that love God all things work together for good." Peace be unto her memory!

    OBITUARY OF CARL R. WALIN

Mr. Carl R. Walin, son of Mrs. Anna Walin and the late C. L. Walin, was born on a farm near Ceresco, Nebr. on September 25, 1890. He was baptised an confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Swedeburg, by the pioneer pastor, Rev. John Torell. He married Miss Judith Torell, January 1, 1913. The young couple engaged in farming for many years until Mrs. Walin's health began to fail and they left the farm in the late twenties and moved to Lincoln where Carl worked as a carpenter.

August 7, 1933, their daughter Ruth passed away at the tender age of fifteen years. Mrs. Walin was seriously ill at that time and passed away June 20th the following year.

Carl and his sone Robert were now alone. The depression of the thirties made living for most city workers, exceedingly difficult, especially for a father with a boy of school age, with no mother to care for the home. Consequently Carl and Robert came to live with sisters in Ceresco and Davey. Mr. Walin has worked in this community the past ten years as a carpenter and painter. People liked his work as well as the wage he asked and soon he was busy all the time.

He was blessed with a pleasing personality and cheerful disposition. He had many trials, but never spoke of them. He bore even the excruciating pain of the last two days of his life without complaining. A year ago he rented a house west of Davey and set up housekeeping. The furniture from the former home in Lincoln was brought together and his mother came to keep house. The arrangements seemed to be ideal and mother as well as son. were very happy.

Carl was a man of strong physical physique and good health. He had experienced no distress or discomfort, but two weeks ago he went to a Lincoln doctor for a checkup to satisfy himself that the slight symptoms of a internal disorder, which he had experienced could be remedied. Upon examination the ailment was found to be ???and he submitted to an operation at Lincoln General hospital on Friday, December 13. At first the process of recovery was normal, but suddenly there was a change for the worse and he passed away Tuesday morning December 17 at the age of 56 years, 2 months and 21 days.

He is deeply mourned by his son, Robert of Laurel, Miss.; his mother, Mrs. Anna Walin; five sisters: Mrs. Theo Anderson; Mrs. Henry Heiser, Mrs. Herbert Nelson, Mrs. Wm. Widman, Mrs. Edward Heiser and one brother, Edward Walin; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Walin was a member of the First Lutheran church in Lincoln.

Carl married Judith Eleonora Torrell on 1 Jan 1913 in Grace Lutheran Church, Swedeburg, Saunders County, Nebraska. Judith was born on 24 Aug 1888 in Nebraska; died on 20 Jun 1934 in at her home in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

THE LINCOLN STAR - SATURDAY, JUNE 10, 1922

    CERESCO

Ceresco, Neb., June 10. (Special to The Star). - Sunday, June 4, the Emmanuel (Immanuel) Evangelical Lutheran church was the scene of a solemn and impressive occasion when six young people, two girls and four boys, were confirmed. The churchs crowded, chairs had to be placed in aisles to accomodate those who came to witness these young people give their confirmatin vows. The service began at 10 a.m. While the choir sang "Saviour, Like a Shephard Lead Us," the confirmands with the pastor Rev. C. Granlund, marched in and arranged themselves around the altar. The confirmands were then subjected to a thorough examination in the doctrines and teachings of the Lutheran church. After the examination which lasted an hour and a half they sang "I am a Pilgrim" whereupon they gave their confirmation vows and were blessed. The pastor then presented each with a Bible, a gift from the congregation.
Those confirmed were Violet Anderson, Edna Pearson, John Walin Jr., Clemens Brodd, Reuben Isacson and Arvid Erickson.
Confirmation day is an annual event in the Lutheran church.

The churchas crowded, chairs had to be placed in aisles to accommodate those who came to witness these young people give their confirmation vows. The service began at 10 a.m. While the choir sang "Saviour, Like a Shephard Lead Us," the confirmands with th the pastor Rev.
The senior class in the Sunday school after having had intense instruction for almost a year under the pastor himself is on that day admitted into full membership of the church, theminating celebrating of the Lord's supper of which they then
    for the first time partake.

He is survived by his wife Florence, and the three boys; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Brodd; four brothers, Virgil, Richard, Lawrence, and Kenneth; many other relatives and a host of friends.
Our departed friend was brought up in a God fearing home. At the age of fifteen he was confirmed by Rev. C.O. Granlund in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a member of said church at the time of his death. Mr. and Mrs. Brodd had a beautifuome life. Love reigned supreme. The bereaved wife told us the other day that a hard word had never been spoken in their home. This makes the passing all the harder. We sympathize with the sorrowing. May God comfort them and give them grace and strength day by day.

CERESCO NEWS - JUNE 11, 1931 - INFANT SON OF MR. AND MRS. ELMER PEARSON PASSES AWAY

The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pearson passed away late Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services were held from the home this afternoon.
This paper extends deepest sympathy to the bereaved parents.

    UNKNOWN NEWSPAPER AND DATE

We sincerely sympathize with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pearson. Their infant boy, Philip Eugene, passed away Wednesday, June 10. The parents had planned to have they boy baptized Sunday in church. But God decided otherwise. We baptised Wednesday,e 10, at 3:30, and just one hour later he passed away. The little fellow was sick only two hours. Certainly our days are uncertain. He was buried in Swedeburg Cemetery the following day.
Tho He giveth or He taketh, God, His children ne'er forsaketh, His the loving only, To preserve them pure and holy.

CERESCO NEWS - JUNE 16, 1931 - INFANT SON OF MR. AND MRS. ELMER PEARSON PASSES AWAY

This little boy was born on Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 1931. On Wednesday, June 10, the parents went to Lincoln to buy the baptismal clothes for the baby. On the way home from Lincoln he was taken ill. The same afternoon he was baptized and reved the name Philip Eugene. We all felt that the little fellow would not live long. Two doctors worked faithfully but without success. He was sick just two hours and then passed away into eternity at an age of two weeks and three days.
Philip Eugene did not wear his clothes for the baptism. He was dressed in it for the funeral, and oh, how sweet he looked in the little coffin. A short service was held at the Pearson home on Thursday afternoon and the little body was laid tost in the Swedeburg Cemetery.
The Lord has taken one of His children to heaven.

CERESCO NEWS - JUNE 16, 1931 - CARD OF THANKS

We greatly appreciate the many kind deeds and sympathy extended during the illness and at the burial of our infant son.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pearson and Martin Leroy
