ALFRED: Born on Nebraska farm and attended country schools until he commenced to work. Only 14 years old when his father died, it was incumbent upon him to assume early responsibility in order to support the other six children. The writer remembmbers the numerous times he came to help on our farm and he was liked by all. When stacking oats or wheat, he and two of my brothers could eat half a bucket of apples at a setting. (It was up to me to fetch the apples). He married Bertha Frostrom Dec. 27, 1909 and moved to Valley, Nebr., where several of their children were born. Next they moved to a farm at Silver City, Nebr. Two of their children died in infancy, later one grown daughter, then his wife died Sept. 22, 1947. Alfred died shortly after, broken hearted and all.

JOSEPH: Born on Nebraska farm and went to country school in Saunders County. He worked to help support his sisters and younger brother. After moving to Missouri with family, he married Allie Thompson (Feb. 1, 1910). Joe was stockily built and as a young man he helped along on his uncle Nils place whenever they were slack on their own farm. In fact, had it not been for Joe and his brother Alfred, and their tremendous capacity for work after their father died, it is doubtful whether their family and farm could have survived. They were giants in the earth. He has been a successful farmer in Amsterdam, Mo., ever since he acquired his own place. Joe and his family belong to the Baptist church.

A great tragedy struck during WW2 when their son Grant, pilot of a B-26, after 59 successful missions over Germany, crashed when attempting to land in a snowstorm. Final Rites Held In Red Oak For Joseph J. McKee
Funeral services for Joseph John McKee of Emerson were held Monday, May 7, 1979, at 2 p.m., at the Grace Baptist church in Red Oak, Pastor Francis Henderson officiated.
Mrs. Myron Kempton was organist, and accompanied Paul Osmanson as he sang "How Great Thou Art," "In The Garden" and "The Lord's Prayer." Mrs. Vincent Good was at the registry book, and flower ladies were Mrs. Harold Rolf, Mrs. Melvin Stoldorf, Mrs. Lloyd Bowen and Mrs. Wayne Spicer. Ushers were George Miller, Lloyd Bowen, Dr. James Ahern and Russell Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Vincent Good, Gayle Durbin, Harold Rolf. Lester R. Anderson, Leonard Fosiel., V.Winfield S. Mayne, Phillip Armknecht, William J. Scherle, Fred Welsch, Victor McCall and Forrest Gillespie. Honorary bearers were Melvin Stoldorf, Ed Laughlin, Glen Olsen, Jerry Vrba, Ray Lasley and Bill Donovan.
Interment was in the Emerson cemetery with Military graveside rites by Levi Burton Post No. 575 of The American Legion. Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
The following life sketch was read:
Joseph John McKee was born March 21, 1914, in Montgomery County to Sam and Julie McKee, who preceded him
in death. He was also preceded by a sister, Helen, in infancy, and an older brother, Joe. He attended high school in Emerson and married Hildred Larsen on Jan 31, 1942 in Cushing, Ne. He entered into the armed forces and serviced overseas in the Japanese Theatre in World War II, earning several medals for meritorious service above and beyond the call of duty. He returned to Red Oak after the war and engaged in farming in the Wales and Villisca vicinities. In 1961 he moved his family to Emerson where he concentrated his efforts on his farming and livestock enterprises until his death.
He is survived by his wife; by two sons, Joseph Eugene and his wife Suzy, Sheldon, and John Kenneth and his wife Pat,
Emerson; two daughters, Lana Kay Brown, Malvern, and Dana Kay Wellhausen and her busband Keith of Clarinda; eight
grandchildren; stepmother, Mrs. S.S. McKee, Red Oak, brothers and sisters, Opal Wendt, Brooklyn, Wise.; L.K. (Pat) McKee and Sam McKee, Jr., both of Red Oak, Vernon McKee, Emerson, Lola Adkins, Des Moines and Mildred Parker, Villisca, other relatives and friends

Samuel McKee, Jr., age 70, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, January 26, 1999 at his residence north of Red Oak after an extended illness. Samuel Sullivan McKee, Jr. was born August 21, 1928 south of Red Oak, Iowa, son of Samuel and Julia Trued McKee.
He graduated from Strahan High School in 1947 and was united in marriage to Lillie Lees on June 6,1948 in Oakland, Iowa.
They farmed south of Emerson and also North of Red Oak. Lillie preceded Sam in death on December 18,1975.
Sam was united in marriage to Grace Frazee on June 13, 1976 in Storm Lake, Iowa. Sam continued to farm until his retirement in 1997 due to ill health.
He was active in 4-H as a youth and as a leader for many years and served on the Farmers Mercantile Board for nine years. He was active in the Strahan United Methodist Church but was still a member of the Emerson Baptist Church. Sam was also a member of the Classy Chassis Car Club of Red Oak and served as President. He attended many car shows receiving lots of trophies for his car collection. In the past few years he collected John Deere Tractors and later branched out to other "Makes". Sam enjoyed being a member of the Southwestern Iowa 2 Cylinder Club and served on the Board of Directors. He enjoyed meeting friends for coffee and was constantly looking for cars and tractors to restore. Grace and Sam enjoyed many trips looking for "Projects". His big project for last year was organizing the McKee 50th year
reunion. He spent many hours ordering and delivering McKee crest T-shirts, caps, and banners.
He is survived by his wife, Grace of Red Oak, Iowa; three daughters, Vivian Rasmussen and her husband Merlin of Red Oak, Iowa, Gladys Pierce and her husband Stan of Union, Nebraska; and Sue Gronemeyer and her husband Don of Hastings, Nebraska; six stepchildren, Phyllis Spicer, Vivian Cash and her husband Dave, and William Frazee and his wife Deb all of Emerson, Iowa, Arnold Frazee and his wife Tracey of Glenwood, Iowa, Linda Frazee of Des Moines, IA; Jan Hansen and her husband Jon of Atkins, Iowa; grandchildren, Dawn Miller and her husband. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 1999 at the Emerson Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Person and the Rev. Mary Allsup officiating. Burial was in the Emerson Cemetery. Visitation was open from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 1999 at the Nelson-Boylan. Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Altrusa Thermal Imaging Camera Fund, Heartland Hospice, Emerson Baptist Church, or the Stratton United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

He was considered of the highest character and courage by all who knew him. A member of the Christian church.
