    Final Rites Held In Red Oak For Joseph J. McKee
    Funeral services for Joseph John McKee of Emerson were held Monday, May 7, 1979, at 2 p.m., at the Grace Baptist church in Red Oak, Pastor Francis Henderson officiated.
    Mrs. Myron Kempton was organist, and accompanied Paul Osmanson as he sang "How Great Thou Art," "In The Garden" and "The Lord's Prayer." Mrs. Vincent Good was at the registry book, and flower ladies were Mrs. Harold Rolf, Mrs. Melvin Stoldorf, Mrs. Lloyd Bowen and Mrs. Wayne Spicer. Ushers were George Miller, Lloyd Bowen, Dr. James Ahern and Russell Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Vincent Good, Gayle Durbin, Harold Rolf. Lester R. Anderson, Leonard Fosiel., V.Winfield S. Mayne, Phillip Armknecht, William J. Scherle, Fred Welsch, Victor McCall and Forrest Gillespie. Honorary bearers were Melvin Stoldorf, Ed Laughlin, Glen Olsen, Jerry Vrba, Ray Lasley and Bill Donovan.
    Interment was in the Emerson cemetery with Military graveside rites by Levi Burton Post No. 575 of The American Legion. Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
    The following life sketch was read:
    Joseph John McKee was born March 21, 1914, in Montgomery County to Sam and Julie McKee, who preceded him
    in death. He was also preceded by a sister, Helen, in infancy, and an older brother, Joe. He attended high school in Emerson and married Hildred Larsen on Jan 31, 1942 in Cushing, Ne. He entered into the armed forces and serviced overseas in the Japanese Theatre in World War II, earning several medals for meritorious service above and beyond the call of duty. He returned to Red Oak after the war and engaged in farming in the Wales and Villisca vicinities. In 1961 he moved his family to Emerson where he concentrated his efforts on his farming and livestock enterprises until his death.
    He is survived by his wife; by two sons, Joseph Eugene and his wife Suzy, Sheldon, and John Kenneth and his wife Pat,
    Emerson; two daughters, Lana Kay Brown, Malvern, and Dana Kay Wellhausen and her busband Keith of Clarinda; eight
    grandchildren; stepmother, Mrs. S.S. McKee, Red Oak, brothers and sisters, Opal Wendt, Brooklyn, Wise.; L.K. (Pat) McKee and Sam McKee, Jr., both of Red Oak, Vernon McKee, Emerson, Lola Adkins, Des Moines and Mildred Parker, Villisca, other relatives and friends

    Joseph married Mildred Ingelborg Larsen on 31 Jan 1942. Mildred was born on 11 Aug 1917 in Howard County, Nebraska; died on 25 Feb 2007 in Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa; was buried in Emerson Cemetery, Emerson, Mills County, Iowa. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Lana Kay McKee Brown, 60, of Olathe, Kan., formerly of Malvern, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, following an extended illness.
    Lana was born March 13, 1945, in St. Paul, Neb. to Joseph J. McKee and Mildred E. McKee
    She is survived by her three sons and daughter in laws, Mark Brown and wife Jennifer of Olathe, Kan., R.W. Brown and wife Danielle of Chicago, and Adam Brown and wife Jamie of Ames, one granddaughter, Ella Kay, mother, Mildred E. McKee of Red Oak, mother in law, Angie Brown of Sherman, Texas, sister, Dana Wellhausen and husband Keith of Clarinda, two brothers, Joe McKee and wife Suzy of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Ken McKee and wife Pat of Emerson, three sisters in law, Janet Thomas and husband Gordon of Villisca, Jackie Yeager and husband Keith of Red Oak, and Paula Ridenour and husband Jerry of Houston, brother in law, Jim Brown and wife Liz of Hilton Head, S.C., five nephews, Chad Wellhausen, Brett Wellhausen and wife Melissa all of Clarinda, JJ McKee and wife Becky of Denver, Chad McKee and wife Diane of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Monte McKee of Colorado Springs, niece, Jennifer Bradley and husband Darrin of Omaha, many other relatives and friends.

    A memorial fund has been established and interment was in the Emerson Cemetery.
