2335 | Obituary Ellen J. Black was born August 23, 1855, died at her home in Green precinct, Saunders county, Nebraska aged 40 years months and 3 days. May 1, 1877 she was united in marriage to John D. Gilchrist, at North English, Iowa. In 1880 she moved with her husband to Nebraska. For nearly a year Mrs Gilchrist suffered with consumption. Last summer was spent in the mountains of Colorado in the hope of to find health but to no avail. She returned and sank rapidly. She hoped to live long enough to settle up her affairs so as to leave her estate in the best possible shape for her children but the grim messenger did not wait for this hope to be realized. She had advertised a sale of her personal property to take place on the 23rd past, but did not live to carry out this plan. Her husband preceded her to the world of spirits about one year and nine months. She leaves five children, all of whom are minors, the oldest being about 16 years of age and the youngest only Six. TwO other children have died. Mrs. Gilchrist was a devout follower of Christ, whom she chose as her Saviour and Guide, when she was sixteen years of age. She found her denominational home in the Christian church. The funeral was held at New Hope Church Sunday forenoon. It was the largest funeral ever held at that church. Rev. C. A. Huyck, of Ashland conducted the services. the burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Saunders County, Nebraska paper. Lois Ann (Heng) Kreifels was born on Feb. 15, 1930 at rural Nebraska City, NE; the daughter of Robert J. Heng, Sr. and Margaret Ann (Volkmer) Heng. She attended country school and later the Nebr. City High School where she graduated with the Class of 1948. She was united in marriage to Clement A. Kreifels on June 2, 1948 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church near Paul, NE. Lois was a housewife/homemaker and worked alongside her husband Clem on the farm. After his death in 1985, she worked at the former Swoyer's Grocery Store and Otoe County Bank. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a long-time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She moved to Nebraska City from the farm near Paul, NE in 2011. She is survived by her children: Roberta "Bobbi" Tomkins of Nebr. City, Chris Kreifels (Lori) of Scottsdale, AZ and Mary Lynn Hall (Tim) of Nebr. City; 9 grandchildren: Brent Guess, Blain Guess, Doug Guess (Heather), Kelly Tompkins, Morgan Pohle (Ben), Emily Moffet (Michael), Crystal Prouty (Darren), Chessa Clay (Jon) and Courtney Schmitz (Jay); 14 great-grandchildren: Braden, Brooklyn, Tori, Cooper, Blake, Olivia, Thad, Gracie, Jadus, Xander, Evers, Harlow, Beckem and Crew; siblings: Mary Farley of Syracuse, NE and Robert Heng, Jr. (Bonnie) of Lincoln, NE; sister-in-law Sharon Heng of Lincoln, NE; other family and friends. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ceresco. Laurel married Rose M. Wagemaan on Nov. 30, 1948. To this union were born two children, Gary W. Nelson and Marcia Kay Tetley. Laurel resided principally in Lancaster County where he engaged mostly in farming. In his earlier years, he also was employed as a carpenter. He sang in the church choir and was a Church Council member for many years. Laurel served on the 4-H Council. He enjoyed fishing and raising purebred Angus cattle. Laurel also loved traveling. He is survived by his wife Rose; children Gary (Lynette) Nelson, Marcia (Douglas) Tetley; grandchildren Stacey (Delta) Nelson, Crystal (Joel) Perrozzi, Julie (Dan) Stauffer, Joe (Angie) Lepore, James (Mellisa) Lepore; great-grandchildren Kolby Nelson, Jonah Perr-ozzi, Emilyn and Treycn Stauffer, Audrie, Maison, Payton, Nathan and Gage Lepore; sisters-in-law Wava Wageman and Eileen Wage-man; nephews and nieces and a host of friends.
