Graves Native of Tennessee Came to Iowa with Parents in 1875 Services were held Friday afternoon in the Mansfield Funeral home for U.R. Graves who passed away at his home here May 8, conducted by the Rev. Lester C. Hall, pastor of the Methodist church. Ulysses Reed Graves was a son of Mr. Mrs. Elliott Graves and was born in Tone county, Tenn. March 17, 1865. He came to Iowa with his parents in 1875, residing near Tabor and later moving to a farm north of Malvern where they resided for 15 years, moving to town in 1892. He was united in marriage to Miss Effie Timmons in February, 1910. To this union was born one son, Ellis, who is now in the armed forces. During the last two years Mr. Graves has been honored by three different organizations for having completed 50 years of membership. Last year a party of given in his honor by the Odd Fellows lodge at Hastings when he was presented with a certificate for 50 year membership. He was one of the members honored at the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the building of the Methodist Church, his membership out-dating the erection of the church building. In February of this this year Mr. Graves was honored at the annual anniversary celebration of the Malvern fire department when he was presented with a 50 year certificate. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge for nearly 50 years, serving as Tyler in that organization for 25 years. He is survived by his wife Effie, son Ellis, one sister, Mrs. B.L. Byers, San Pedro, Cal., and two brothers, Cecil of Junction City, Kan. and Mark of Sterling, Colorado. Members of the Odd Fellow lodge were pallbearers: Fred Hall, K.C. Dice, Glenn Eacrett, Ed Hathaway, Vernon Crouse and R. Anderson. The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Belle Allely and Mrs. Lottie Nelson. Music was furnished by Mrs. Harriet Costello, accompanied by Mrs. J.E. Ellison at the piano. | ||
