Death Claims Former Crete Resident August 8

Sister Adelia of St. Mary Convent, Mo., died at 9 o'clock Friday morning in St. Louis, Mo., where she had been the past year. Her condition became serious in June. Sister Adelia was born Nov. 28, 1916, in Crete, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Maas of Crete. She attended the Crete Catholic School and left here in 1933 to take up religious training at Motherhouse Novitiate at O'Fallon, Mo. She became a member of the Order of the Sisters of the Precious Blood in 1936. Her cheerful disposition made her endeared to the members of her community.

Survivors are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Maas, three brothers, Joseph, Hubert and Vernon of Crete and one sister, Sister Audrey of O'Fallon. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from the chapel at O'Fallon. She was laid to rest in the Motherhouse cemetery at O'Fallon.

Mr. and Mrs. Vern Maas and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Maas attended the funeral.

Orlando Passenger List
Orlando Passenger List
Although the family is listed with the surname Anderson, I am certain this is the correct family. It correctly lists the parish (Håkantorp), the number of passengers, and the time frame. Three of the five names are correct. Because A.G. escaped military service and the family left without papers from their home parish, they may have had cause to not mention their soldier's name (Brodd).
