    Notes:

    James William Cogburn and his brother Freeman Hardy Cogburn were the first residents of Pisgay Creek section of Cruso in Haywood County, NC. They built a crude, one room log cabin - a bark shack, to live in and they cooked their potatoes in an Indian clay pot. This information was furnished by Will's granddaughter, Essie Sellers Jervis.

    Will and wife Kate raised sheep, sheared wool, and dyed, carded and spun the thread, then wove blankets. Some family members still possess their hand-made blankets.
