    OBITUARY OF CARL R. WALIN

Mr. Carl R. Walin, son of Mrs. Anna Walin and the late C. L. Walin, was born on a farm near Ceresco, Nebr. on September 25, 1890. He was baptised an confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Swedeburg, by the pioneer pastor, Rev. John Torell. He married Miss Judith Torell, January 1, 1913. The young couple engaged in farming for many years until Mrs. Walin's health began to fail and they left the farm in the late twenties and moved to Lincoln where Carl worked as a carpenter.

August 7, 1933, their daughter Ruth passed away at the tender age of fifteen years. Mrs. Walin was seriously ill at that time and passed away June 20th the following year.

Carl and his sone Robert were now alone. The depression of the thirties made living for most city workers, exceedingly difficult, especially for a father with a boy of school age, with no mother to care for the home. Consequently Carl and Robert came to live with sisters in Ceresco and Davey. Mr. Walin has worked in this community the past ten years as a carpenter and painter. People liked his work as well as the wage he asked and soon he was busy all the time.

He was blessed with a pleasing personality and cheerful disposition. He had many trials, but never spoke of them. He bore even the excruciating pain of the last two days of his life without complaining. A year ago he rented a house west of Davey and set up housekeeping. The furniture from the former home in Lincoln was brought together and his mother came to keep house. The arrangements seemed to be ideal and mother as well as son. were very happy.

Carl was a man of strong physical physique and good health. He had experienced no distress or discomfort, but two weeks ago he went to a Lincoln doctor for a checkup to satisfy himself that the slight symptoms of a internal disorder, which he had experienced could be remedied. Upon examination the ailment was found to be ???and he submitted to an operation at Lincoln General hospital on Friday, December 13. At first the process of recovery was normal, but suddenly there was a change for the worse and he passed away Tuesday morning December 17 at the age of 56 years, 2 months and 21 days.

He is deeply mourned by his son, Robert of Laurel, Miss.; his mother, Mrs. Anna Walin; five sisters: Mrs. Theo Anderson; Mrs. Henry Heiser, Mrs. Herbert Nelson, Mrs. Wm. Widman, Mrs. Edward Heiser and one brother, Edward Walin; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Walin was a member of the First Lutheran church in Lincoln.

Carl married Judith Eleonora Torrell on 1 Jan 1913 in Grace Lutheran Church, Swedeburg, Saunders County, Nebraska. Judith was born on 24 Aug 1888 in Nebraska; died on 20 Jun 1934 in at her home in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
