Notes:

Arthur was called Lester or Bud. He rode out of Fremont one day on his bicycle and was never heard from again. He lived for a time in Wahoo NE, in his later years. Not much is known about him...Bert Ladd.
Arthur and his wife lived in Nickerson when their second son, Roy, was born. He had or worked at a blacksmith shop in Morse Bluff, Saunders, NE when they had their fifth child, Charles. He also worked for the Northwestern R.R. at some unkno point after Charles was born. He worked for a time for the Wahoo Wasp, Wahoo, Saunders, NE. His job was to try and repair the presses when they broke down. The dates of this job were about 1941-1943. He lived in a hotel in Wahoo, NE, located o on a corner of an intersection, on the second floor. Charles and his wife visited him there on more than one occasion. Arthur also traveled to and from CA many times. While in CA on these trips, he would work at his brother Johns saw sharpeninening shop. These trips were by bus. He rode a bicycle quite a bit in his later years in and around Fremont NE. Jack and Charles say he even got his picture in a Omaha newspaper together with a article about his long bike rides.....Charles Ladddd. Arthur's S.S. number was 508-07-6117. His grave is in section 35, block 7, lot 36, grave 10. In the 1917 draft list, he was number 1909 571, his P.O. was Nickerson NE. On his WWI draft registration card he said he was born in 1886 and was married and had 3 sons.

In the 1910 census, Arthur and Hanna were living with his father and brother in Nickerson NE and there were no children listed! Where was Burt?

In the 1920 census they were living in Morse Bluff, Saunders, NE., and he was a blacksmith.

Charles was a blacksmith in Fontanelle NE. He invented many tools for the blacksmith trade. May have served in the Civil War. This information from Bert Ladd, his grandson. Marriage info from Nebraska Ancestree. It listed newspaper, The Weekly Burtonian, Tekamah, Polk Co. as the source of info. He was found dead in a wagon at the home of his son where he had gone for a visit. He was a member of Woodmen of the World.

Charles married Loretta Whitney on 28 Sep 1877. Loretta was born on 21 Jan 1860 in , , IN; died on 26 Jan 1903 in Hooper, Dodge, NE; was buried on 27 Jan 1903 in Hooper Cem., Hooper, Dodge, NE. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Loretta was accidently shot and died from the wound. The shooter was a neighbor's son. She lingered for 8 weeks. The boy was Ray Lindquist. He was 10 years old at the time. The funeral was held in the Methodist church in Nickerson, NE, where she was a member. In 1900 she said she had bore 7 children and 3 were living.

At age 21 moved to WV for 5 years, then to LaSalle Co. IL for 6 years. Then to NE. This info from "History of the Elkhorn Valley, NE" Published in 1892 by C.H. Scoville and the National Publishing Co. He was one of the very first pioneers of the Elkhorn Valley, arriving in 1856. He invented a revolving harrow and a car jack and made many of each in his blacksmith shop .

Malinda had 10 children, 7 of which were living in 1900. Daughter of William and Sophia Mansfield natives of Scotland and KY respectively. One source has her death and grave in WY. In the 1910 census she was living with her son Sidney in Ewing, Holt, NE. She said she bore 7 children and all were living at that time. She was a widow at that time, she said.

John was the 1st of 6 children born to John and Sarah Ladd. They were, John Hibbard, Hiram, E noch H., Joseph, Mary M. and Ruth B. Ladd. He spent some time in Kingswood, VA (WV?) as a you ng man. He was Justice of the Peace in Lima, IN for 25 years. He lived and died at 1450 Michi gan Ave. in Chicago, IL. He left New England in 1818.
