    WAHOO - Sylvia A. Mattson, 82, of Wahoo died Tuesday, Aug. 27 at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
    Mattson was born Oct. 6, 1919, to Frank A. and Anna Marie (Chmelka) Jelinek in Weston. She graduated from Weston High School in 1937 and Midland College in Fremont in 1967.
    On June 21, 1947, she was united in marriage to Lester E. Mattson in Ceresco. The couple lived in the rural Ceresco area before moving to Wahoo in 1982.
    She was an elementary school teacher for 38 years. She taught in rural Saunders County country schools and West Ward Elementary in Wahoo before retiring in 1986.
    She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Ceresco and attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wahoo; president of the Wahoo Area Retired Teachers Association; treasurer of the Saunders County Genealogical Seekers; American Legion Auxiliary Post 82 of Wahoo; Serenading Seniors Novelty Band; and Wahoo Senior Center.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Ann M. Jelinek and Leona Parker.
    She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, June and Roger Vogel of Fremont and Janice K. Harroun of Lincoln; grandchildren, Curt Maly of Freeport, Ill., Steve Maly of Lincoln and Mark Maly of Fremont; step grandsons, Matt Vogel of Fremont and Mitch Vogel of Salina, Kan.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Francis Jelinek of Wahoo, Max and Sandy Jelinek of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Donald and Eleanor Jelinek of Wahoo; sisters and brother-in-law, Adeline Johnson of Wahoo, Shirley and William Ingram of Wesleco, Texas and Dorothy Slemin of Wahoo; nieces and nephews.
    Services were held Saturday, Aug. 31, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wahoo with Rev. Kent Morse officiating.
    Honorary casket bearers were Curt, Steve and Mark Maly, Matt and Mitch Vogel.
    Casket bearers were Lloyd Johnson Jr., Dick Parker, Jack Jelinek, Randy Ingram, Rodney Jelinek and Lyle Stearnes.
    Burial was at Sunrise North Cemetery in Wahoo.
    Memorials may be made to the Sylvia Mattson Elementary Education Teaching Scholarship in care of First National Bank, P.O. Box 68, Wahoo, NE 68066.
    Svoboda Funeral Home of Wahoo was in charge of the arrangements.

    Sylvia married Edward Lester Mattson on 21 Jun 1947 in Ceresco, Saunders County, Nebraska. Edward (son of Emil Nathaneal Mattson and Ida Gunilla Nelson) was born on 16 Feb 1912 in Ceresco, Saunders County, Nebraska; died on 11 Feb 1983 in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska; was buried in Sunrise Cemetery, Wahoo, Saunders County, Nebraska.
