Doris was buried close to a big tree in the Mission Compound where her parents were serving. This from Iris Bancroft, her sister, in June 2009. Iris said she visited there in 1984 and the tree was still there at that time.

Carl died of a gallstone problem after returning from China. In the 1900 census, he was listed as Charles. He went to China on Nov 23, 1903. Carol Baxter says he died in Portland, OR.? Hid obit said his mother-in-law lived in Malmo NE.

Enroute Home At Swedeburg From China For A Vacation Of Several Months
The people of this vicinity were very grieved to hear of the death of Rev. Carl Nelson, a Swedeburg boy, who has been serving as a missionary in China for the past ten years, his demise occurring at San Francisco Thursday, August 23rd.
He and his family were enroute to Saunders county for a much needed vacation after an absence of nearly 10 years, and his death comes as an almost unbearable shock to his aged father, John Nelson of Swedeburg as well as to the mother of his, Mrs. Olof Anderson of Malmo, both of whom had been looking eagerly forward to the rrival of their children from the Orient.
The deceased was born and raised in Saunders county and has a host of friends around Swedeburg, Ceresco and Wahoo. He was a brother to David and Oscar Nelson, of Swedeburg and to Mrs. Elmer Gustafson of Wahoo. Notes:

Johannes was an orphan according to most family stories. Another says he had sisters: Mrs. Oberg (Wahoo), Mrs. Bang (Sweden), and Nilla. He came to USA in 1868. Mrs. Oberg moved to Los Angeles CA. He was orphaned at the age of 9 years. The name was Nillson in Sweden. He changed it when he went to work for the railroad in Kearney NE. in the late 1880's. He first located in Mt. Pleasant, Henry, IA and attended the Swede Bend Church near Manson, Pocahontas, IA. This was the first Missioon Covenant Church built in America. He moved to a homestead 5 miles south of Wahoo. Soon gave up the homestead and moved to Kearney and worked on the B. & M. railroad until 1881 when he returned to Saunders Co. and a farm near Swedeburg. He was the third Postmaster of Swedeburg, from May 12, 1881-Jan 31, 1886, the office being in his home during that time. The office was moved to Swedeburg when the railroad came through. He was naturalized in 1876.
On a marriage licence in Kearney, he listed the names of his parents in Sweden. As far as I know, this is the only mention of those names, ever.
In the 1880 census they were living in Kearney City, Buffalo, NE and he was a section boss for the railroad.
The 1920 census lists a Matilda Martinson, age 57 (b. 1863) as head of the house? John is also listed as head of house. Elvera, age 13, is the only child still at home apparently. Who is Matilda Martinson?
The 1900 census lists Selma Kinman, age 33, living in the home.

Johannes married Sara Maria Amalia Kinman on 31 May 1879 in Kearney, Buffalo, NE. Sara (daughter of Nikolaus Nils Kinman and Sara Maja Johansdotter) was born on 20 Apr 1859 in Asby, Ostergotlands, Sweden; died on 18 May 1915 in Swedeburg, Saunders, NE; was buried on 21 May 1915 in Fridhem Cem., Swedeburg, Saunders, NE. "My mother had two brothers in Sweden named Sven and Johan. Sven disappeared altogether while he was comparatively young and neither mother or Uncle Johan were ever able to find any trace of him. Their names and mother's maiden name was Kinman and Johan had a job or position somewhat similar to our Forestry Division and the head-office from which he worked and was connected was undoubtedly at Stockholm, Sweden. Johan was married and had two children, Sten and Lisa (pronounced Leesa) whwhen my mother made a trip to Sweden in the early 1900's. Her brother's address then, as near as I can remember was Jagmastare Herr J.E. Kinman, Lindkoping, Sweden. This was some small town or village evidently not too far from Stockholm. Another place often mentioned was Eksjo. My cousin Sten came to the U.S. sometime around 1913 and landed at Johnstown Penn. and got married there and settled down and was there when we were with Glenn at Falls Church in 1951, and I had most surely planned and hoped to go see him when we were that near, but Glenn's hurried call to go back to Japan (and we getting his boys on our hands) cancelled those hopes and plans, and a few years later Sten passed away". This from a letter to my father, Fred Martinson dated March 13, 1963 from George M. Nelson. Sara came to America in 1878. Sara arrived in the port of N.Y. on September 9, 1878 aboard the steamship S.S. The Queen.

These parents of Johannes Nelson were found in the Buffalo County, NE marriage book of 1879. They were reprinted in the Nebraska Ancestree Volume 8, No. 4-Spring 1986, page 131. This was the first time anyone has ever heard of Johannes's parents. He always said he was a orphan.

Nickolous came to America on Aug. 15, 1878. In the 1900 census they were living in Sherman Township, Kearney, NE.
His first two wives were sisters.
