    EVALD C. BRODD-KNUDSEN
    My grandparents were Anders and Gustafva Brodd who emigrated from Sweden in 1875, and came to Saunders County in the year 1882. My father was August Brodd, their son. My mother was Hilma Greenberg. She came to America from Sweden when she wasxteen years old and came to her sister's home, Mrs. Nels Eliason at Swedeburg, Nebraska. August and Hilma were married January 25, 1899. I am one of their ten children.
    My wife Dorothea's grandparents were Anders and Berte Andrea Knudsen who came from Norway and lived southeast of Ceresco. Her father, Herman, was the youngest of five children. Her mother's parents were Olaf and Ida Marie Boquist, who came toe Ceresco community from Illinois. Their daughter, Ida, married Herman Knudsen on May 5, 1897. Dorothea was the youngest of their three children.
    I attended Shakespeare grade school northwest of Ceresco, Ceresco High School, Luther Academy and the University of Nebraska night school. Dorothea attended the Bright Star country school southeast of Ceresco and graduated from the Cerescoh School in 1928.
    We were married at Waverly, Nebraska, September 8, 1935, lived near Ceresco for two years, and moved to Wahoo in 1937, where we have lived ever since. My employment was at the Union State Bank, Ceresco, for five and one-half years. In 1930, Ime to the First National Bank at Wahoo, where I worked for forty-five years. I retired in 1975.
    Our family consists of Robert, born December 1937. He attended North Ward School, Wahoo High School, Nebraska Wesleyan and Midland College. He married Laura Ann Peters of Scribner, Nebraska. They were married in Hooper, Nebraska June 28, 1963hey have two sons, Brian and Daryl, who, at present, are attending Hooper-Loganview High School.
    Our son, Roger, was born June 24, 1945, attended North Ward grade school, Wahoo High School, and is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He married Charlene Anderson of Omaha, August 26, 1967, who is a graduate of Nebraska Wesan. They have four sons, David, Joel, Charles and William Robert and reside in Omaha, Nebraska.
    We have been very active members of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wahoo during the past forty-two years. Dorothea's extra-curricular activities have been Wahoo Mother's Club, Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, Wahoo Garden Club and Lutheran Chh Women. I have been in Boy Scout leadership for twenty-five years, many years as an active member in Kiwanis club, Bethlehem Lutheran Church choir, Church Board Member, Wahoo Coin Club and, at present, sing barbershop harmony with the Fremont Pathfinder barbershop chorus.     DORTHEA BRODD

    Dorothea A. Brodd, 87, of Wahoo, died Saturday, Jan. 10 at the Saunders County Community Hospital in Wahoo. She was born July 20, 1910 on a farm southeast of Ceresco to Herman A. and Ida Marie (Boquist) Knudsen.
    She grew up on the farm and attended Bright Star Grade School and graduated from Ceresco High School in 1928. After graduation she worked in various private homes in Lincoln until 1935.
    On Sept. 8, 1935, she married Evald C. Brodd in Waverly. In 1937 they moved to Wahoo where she resided until her death.
    A homemaker, she was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, a member of the Wahoo Womens Club, Wahoo Garden Club, Wahoo Mothers Club, the Wahoo Senior Citizens Center, and life member of the Saunders County Historical Society
    She was a 60 year member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wahoo, where she was a member of the Ladies Choir, Mission Society, ELCA Women. She held several offices in these organizations.
    She was preceded in death by her brother Alvin Knudsen; sister, Eveline Johnson, and grandson, William Brodd.
    Survivors include her husband, Evald of Wahoo; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert and Carla Ann Brodd of Fremont and Roger Brodd of Omaha, daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Gerald Johnson of Plymouth; grandchildren Brian and Pam Brodd of Frem, Daryl and Ann Brodd of Ames, Bryce and Dane Johnson, and Valerie and James Konecky of Lincoln; David Brodd and fiance Suzy of Omaha, and Charles and Jamie Brodd of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Kristen and Curtis Brodd, Emilie Johnson, Lila Konecky, and Markee Brodd; and sister-in-law, Ethel Brodd of Wahoo.
    Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wahoo. Rev. Kent Morse officiated.
    Interment was held at Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo.
    Casket bearers were Brian Brodd, Daryl Brodd, David Brodd, Joel Brodd, Charles Brodd, Bryce Johnson and Valerie Konecky.
    Honorary casket bearer was William Brodd.
    Memorials may be sent to Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund or Family Choice.
    Pruss Funeral Home, Wahoo, in charge of arrangements.

    WAHOO DEMOCRAT - SEPTEMBER 12, 1935

    MISS KNUTZEN MARRIES EVALD BRODD SUNDAY

    At Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock occurred the marriage of Miss Dorothea Knutzen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Knutzen of Waverly to Evald Brodd of Wahoo, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Brodd of Ceresco, at the home of the bride's parents. Theple was unattended. The marriage lines were read by Rev. Lonnquist of Bethlehem. The bride was attired in a jacketed white crepe dress with accessories of white and carried a bouquet of Orphelia Roses.
    The bride and groom left on Monday on a three week wedding trip to Yellowstone Park and other places of interest. Mr. Brodd is employed as Clerk in The First National Bank at Wahoo. Future plans of the couple have not been revealed.

    August Brodd was born in Sweden. He came to this country with his parents and 2 sisters. They moved to Wyoming and lived there several years. The family moved to Nebraska in 1882. Hilma Greenberg arrived in Swedeburg from Sweden in 1894. August farmed Mr. J. W. Johnson's farm for several years. August was president of the Farmers Cooperative Elevator of Ceresco for many years and donated many hundreds of hours of work to keep it intact during the depression years and in making it develop later into a strong business organization to serve the farmers of the community.

    OBITUARY

    Mrs. Hilma Brodd was born in Matterod, Skane, Sweden, June 17, 1875. She was confirmed May 29, 1890. In 1894 she arrived in America at the age of 19. She was united in marriage to Mr. John August Brodd, January 25, 1899.
    She is mourned by her husband and eight children. These are: Herbert, Harold, Emeline, Ella, Ethel and Carl at home; Evald of Wahoo, and Edith (Mrs. Leonard Jasa) of Omaha. Two children have preceded her in death; Mildred Victoria passed awayly 27, 1902 and Henry Vernon, April 26, 1921.
    She is survived by three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mathilda Oakeson of Fremont and Mrs. C. E. Danielson of Swedeburg and one brother, Mr. Herman Nelson of Wahoo.
    Mrs. Brodd was a faithful member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ceresco. In the days of her health and strength she always occupied her pew in the church. Her health began to fail several years ago. On Good Friday of this year, her pastorme out to give her the Lords Supper. Shortly after this quiet service, Mrs. Brodd had a stroke of paralysis. At first, there were signs of improvement, but later there was a steady decline in strength and death came early Thursday morning, May 9, 1946.
    The family gave her loving care to the last, and today they follow her to the grave.
    We thank the Father who has made her "meet to be partaker of the inheritance of the Saints in light, who hath delivered her from the power of darkness and hath transformed her into the Kingdom of his dear Con." Col 1:9, 10.
    Mrs. Brodd was 70 years, 10 months and 22 days old at the time of her demise.
    Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ceresco, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. Arthur H. Peterson in charge. Internment at the Swedeburg Lutheran Cemetery.
