    PHILLIP: Born May 22, 1912. Graduated from high school, then entered Augustana College He sang in many of the school choral organizations and has distinct musical gifts. Directed many young people groups in churches where he served as student papastor. After receiving his B. A. degree from Augustana he sought work on the east coast and chose not to follow the ministry. Married Eva Cunningham of Stanford, Fla., Sept. 1942. Enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served on warships throughout WW2. Works for Veterans Administration at St. Petersburg, Fla., and has been active in organizing the Redeemer Lutheran Church. He helps with the choir and is a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. They have one child: David, born Feb. 26, 1946.

    TRUED, PHILIP L., 86, St. Petersburg, died Thursday (Oct. 22, 1998) at Hospice Woodside, Pinellas Park. Born in Lawrence, Kan. he came here in 1967 from Sanford. He was a field director of the National Red Cross for 31 years and was a member of American Red Cross Retirees. He was a 1935 graduate of Augustina University of Rock Island, Ill. Locally, he was the last surviving charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. During World War II, he served in the Navy. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Eva C.; a son, C. David, Newnan, Ga.; a daughter, Kay Marlene Jones, Seminole; a brother, LaVern, Sanford; a sister, Leona Bivens, Madera, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Rebecca Meeks, Moore, S.C. R. Lee Williams & Son Funeral Home & Crematory, 49th St. N Chapel, St. Petersburg.

    LEVIN: born on farm in Nebraska. Graduated from Luther College, later from Augustana College, with a B. A. degree. Was valedictorian at Luther. He attended Kansas Uni., where he continued his special study of the Greek language. Married Esther Bengtson of Swedeburg, Nebr., of an old pioneer family. She was also a student at Lutheran College He then studied at Aug. Lutheran Seminary where he graduated with B. D. degree and served pastorates at Kent City, Mich., Kirkland, Ill., Gary, Indd., and Hager City, Wisc. He also devoted time to scientific pursuits especially meteorology and radio. He broadcast his own church services in Kirkland with self-made equipment and perfected many radio innovations. He was a forceful and eloquent speaker. He died of a heart ailment in Tribune, Kansas, in 1940, from which he had suffered most of his life. Esther is now living with son Laverne in Florida.

    NILS TRUED AND HIS WIFE JOHANNA MATHILDA

    NILS TRUED: Second child of Trued and Elsie Nilsson. Born Nov. 27, 1844, he came from Attarp, Kristianstads Lan, Sweden. First of family to arrive in America in the early spring of 1868, he was followed in succession by three sisters, one brother and his parents.
    He went directly to Hastings, Minnesota, but also lived at Red Wing. Helped construct RR between Chicago and Minneapolis. Worked also as a farm-hand and did some tailoring, a trade he had apprenticed in Sweden. In Sweden he attended grade and high (trade) school, and spent three years in the Swedish army. He ha gray-blue eyes, was rugged, but of medium build.
    In 1869 he set out for the open prairies of Nebraska, about a year after the state had been admitted to the Union. He crossed the Missouri River below Omaha on the Plattsmouth ferry and in the company of Betsy, Nellie and Swan Dedrick,-whom he h had escorted from Red Wing,-proceeded to the little village of Lancaster (Lincoln). He immediately filed on a homestead 18 miles north of town and the next spring, with the help of Martin (Magnus) Erickson, who had just arrived with brother John from Sweden, he built a dugout-soddie on a southern hillside.
    Coarse weeds and slough grass used on roof and exposed walls and all cracks plastered with clay and ashes. Dimensions: 16
