Ceresco, Neb., June 10. (Special to The Star). - Sunday, June 4, the Emmanuel (Immanuel) Evangelical Lutheran church was the scene of a solemn and impressive occasion when six young people, two girls and four boys, were confirmed. The churchs crowded, chairs had to be placed in aisles to accomodate those who came to witness these young people give their confirmatin vows. The service began at 10 a.m. While the choir sang "Saviour, Like a Shephard Lead Us," the confirmands with the pastor Rev. C. Granlund, marched in and arranged themselves around the altar. The confirmands were then subjected to a thorough examination in the doctrines and teachings of the Lutheran church. After the examination which lasted an hour and a half they sang "I am a Pilgrim" whereupon they gave their confirmation vows and were blessed. The pastor then presented each with a Bible, a gift from the congregation.
Those confirmed were Violet Anderson, Edna Pearson, John Walin Jr., Clemens Brodd, Reuben Isacson and Arvid Erickson.
Confirmation day is an annual event in the Lutheran church. The senior class in the Sunday school after having had intense instruction for almost a year under the pastor himself is on that day admitted into full membership of the church, theminating celebrating of the Lord's supper of which they then
for the first time partake.

Edna married Carl Julius Brostrom on 16 Mar 1932 in Immanuel Lutheran Church Parsonage, Ceresco, Nebraska. PEARSON - BROSTROM

Miss Edna L. Pearson, daughter of Mrs. Clara Pearson, became the bride of Mr. C. Julius Brostrom, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Brostrom, on Wednesday afternoon, March 16, at 4 o'clock. The ceremony was performed by Rev. A. H. Peterson at the Lutan parsonage. Miss Helen Brostrom, sister of the groom, and Mr. Irvin Pearson, brother of the bride, were attendants.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the bride's home for members of the immediate families. A wedding dinner was served, with table covers for twelve.
This happy young couple are well and favorably known in our community, are active members of the Lutheran church, and held in highest esteem. Their many friends join us in wishing them much joy, happiness and prosperity. They will make theire on the C. T. Brostrom farm near Ceresco.

OBITUARY

William Pearson died at his home two miles northwest of Ceresco, Thursday evening, June 24th, after an extended illness, death resulting from a cancer. He was born at Swedeburg, Nebr., on June 20, 1877, being 43 years and 4 days of age. He waonfirmed in the Lutheran Church on April 7, 1907, where he has been a faithful worker, first being connected with the Swedeburg church and later transferring his membership to the Immanuel church here in Ceresco. On October 22, 1901, he was marrrried to Clara Elizabeth Brodd at Laramie, Wyo., and this union has been blessed with four children - Elmer, Herman, Edna and Irvin, who together with their mother are left to sadly mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father, yet theey "sorrow not as they have no hope." "So, if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also that are fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with Him." Two sisters and three brothers were also at his bedside when death came. Numerous other relatives and friends will feel keenly the loss of one whom they loved and respected for his many sterling qualities of character. The Grace of God in Christ is able to truly comfort all who permit the Holy Spirit to comfort them. Our prayer is that this comfort may richly abide with all.

Clara was born the 4th child of Anders and Gustafva Brodd, and their first here in America. She was born in Carbon, Wyoming, and at the age of 5 moved with her family to Nebraska. She was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Swedeburg, Saunders County, Nebraska, and also confirmed there. When she was a young lady, she traveled back to Wyoming to help care for her aunt, (Mrs. J. W. Johnson). She also worked in Mr. Johnson's restaurant. While there, she met Will Pearson, and later married him.
In 1905, they moved back to Nebraska, and for a short time lived on a farm by Weston, Saunders County, Nebraska, but later purchased a farm near Ceresco, Saunders County, Nebraska. Will died in 1920, and Clara remained on the farm until 1935n Irvin got married. She left the farm and worked in Mead, Lincoln, & Omaha Nebraska as a housekeeper and caring for elderly people. She later bought a home in Ceresco, Saunders County, Nebraska where she lived until her death. The home she bought had at one time been a hotel.

Clara's brother Herman married Lily Bengtson. Lily's brother Wilhelm, is Florence Bengtson Olson's father.

OBITUARY

Clara Elizabeth Brodd was born to Anders Gustaf and Gustava Brodd, June 23, 1877 in Carbon, Wyo. Death came to her at the Saunders County Hospital, Wahoo, Nebraska, November 13, 1957 at the age of 80 years, four months and 21 days after a lining illness.
She was baptized October 21, 1882 and confirmed April 30, 1893 in the Lutheran Church at Swedeburg, Nebraska.
On October 22, 1901 she was united in marriage to Peter William Pearson at Scandinavian Lutheran Church, Laramie, Wyo. To this union were born three sons, namely Elmer, Herman and Irvin, all of Ceresco and one daughter Edna, Mrs. Julius Brosm of Monmouth, Ore.
Her husband preceded her in death June 24, 1920. One sister Augusta, Mrs. Carl Nelson, and one brother, Carl Herman Brodd also preceded her in death.
Family residence has been in Laramie, Wyoming, Weston and Ceresco, Nebr.
Clara was a loving and a devoted mother. As long as health permitted, she was willing at all times to help others in time of need. She was a charter member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Ceresco to which she was always faithful.
She leaves to mourn her departure three sons, one daughter, twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Also one sister Anna (Mrs. C. L. Walin), one brother J. A. Brodd, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Nels Olson at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Friday, November 15. Mrs. Leonard Palm was organist and Mrs. Glenn Larsen was soloist.
Pallbearers were Harold Brodd, Melvin Nelson, Omar Sutton, Richard Brodd, Norman Pearson and Edward Walin.
Internment was in Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Swedeburg, Nebr.

Notes:

Christian attended the common schools in Sweden and while still a boy worked as a coachman. He came to the US when he was about 30 years old. His brothers Johannes and Andrew immigrated to Sauk Center, Minnesota; his brother Nils remained in Sweden. Christian worked for two or three years near Ashland, NE, as a farm hand and cattle feeder. He then bought a farm in Chapman precinct, near Weston, and started farming. Johanna came to this country with her parents, probably in the early 1870s. Some records list her name as Johanna Nilsdotter.

Christian grew the standard crops for the area and had livestock. The family also had an orchard and a small patch of tobacco. Johanna maintained a flower garden. Like most farmers of the area, Christian brought wheat to a mill in Wahoo, which was ground into flour for home use. Christian continued to farm on his land in Chapman precinct until 1901, when he purchased a farm in Stocking precinct and moved there.

Christian and Johanna had eight children. One day most likely in 1876, when Christian and Johanna were outside working, their farmhouse caught fire and was destroyed. Inside were their two children, Peter and Oscar, who probably were twins. The boys, one crippled and the other tied to a high chair, died in the fire. Their next two children were boys, who they also named Peter and Oscar.

Christian and Johanna were members of the Baptist church in Weston. Christian was a religious and stern man and a Republican. He had red hair, which he wore rather long as was the custom, and his hair complimented his full red beard. Christian eventually owned 480 acres of farmland. When he died, each of his sons received a farm as an inheritance - or the equal thereof. Fritz inherited the home farm in Chapman precinct and Oscar inherited the farm in Stocking precinct. Johanna lived her final years with her daughter Lida in a small house in Weston.


PAST AND PRESENT OF SAUNDERS COUNTY:

Christian Pearson was for many years engaged in farming in Chapman precinct, but his last years were spent in Stocking precinct, where he purchased land in 1901. A native of Sweden, he was born on New Year's Eve, 1837. He attended the common schchools in his native land and while still a boy worked as a coachman. He remained in Sweden until he was about thirty years of age, when he emigrated to the United States, and for two or three years he worked in the vicinity of Ashland, Nebraska, as a farm hand for a big cattle feeder. He then bought land in Chapman precinct and carried on agricultural pursuits successfully there for almost three decades, after which he purchased land in Stocking precinct, where he resided until his death in October, 1907.

Mr. Pearson was married to Miss Johanna Olson, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nils Olson, both natives of Sweden, who, however, emigrated to the United States. To Mr. and Mrs. Pearson were born eight children, two of whom are deceased, the others being: William, a resident of Ceresco who married Miss Clara Brodd and has four children; Oscar, who is living on the home place; Lena, the wife of Dave Peterson, of Strombsburg, Nebraska, by whom she has two children; Fritz, who is living near Ceeresco and who married Miss Maggie Dobley and has one child; Ernest, who is residing near Waverly and married Nellie Clay, by whom he has a child; and Lida, who is living at Weston and is the widow of Joe A. Novak. Mr. Pearson was a republican in politics and always took a commendable interest in affairs of public concern. His demise was deeply regretted and his friends still cherish his memory.

Johanna (daughter of Hoken Nils Olson) was born on 31 Jul 1850 in Tfvetofta (a small village) in the Blekinge Province, in Sweden; died on 12 Nov 1913 in Weston, Nebraska; was buried in Bethel Cemetery, Rural Weston, Saunders County, Nebraska. MRS GUSTAVA BRODD OF CERESCO PASSES

Mrs. Gustava Brodd was born in Lena Parrish, Vastragotaland, Sweden, June 23, 1840. In 1869 she married Anders Gustav Brodd. This union was blessed with five children. One daughter passed away in 1916, namely Mrs. Carl Nelson. The other chiln live in the vicinity of Ceresco.
Together with her husband and two children who were born in Sweden, Mrs. Brodd came to America May 17, 1875. Upon their arrival in this country, the family made their home in Carbin, Wyoming, where Mr. Brodd worked in the coal mines. Mrs. Bd often related the hardships endured in the west. The most serious problem in Carbin, was that there was no church and, the Brodd's knew well, that they, themselves, and the children needed the church and the menas of grace for their temporal and spiritual welfare. Two children were born in Wyoming but they could not be baptized because there was no pastor.
In October 1882, the family moved to Ceresco, Nebraska. Mrs. Brodd often told of the joy she and her husband experienced as they once more could worship in the church of their childhood faith and lead their children up to the alter of the Sweurg Lutheran Church where the little ones stood "head above the rail" as mother Brodd said, while Holy Baptism was administered. Would to God that all parents were as much concerned about the spiritual welfare of their children.
Mrs. Brodd has been a true mother of Israel. Her devotion to God, her calm faith, and love for the church will always be remembered. What she was God had made her; what she did God recognized; what she asked God granted. She was abundantly bled for all she was and did and not only she, the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and our church have been blessed by her presence in our midst and her benediction follows us thru life. Of her we would humbly say; "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth; yea saith the Spirit that they may rest from their labors; for their works follow with them" - Rev. 14:13.
After a short illness she passed away in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clara Pearson, Monday morning, May 19 at the ripe age of 89 years, 10 months and 25 days. For 61 years Mr. and Mrs. Brodd have lived together, loved, prayed and worked.
She is survived by her husband, A. G. Brodd, four children, Mrs. C. L. Walin, August, Herman and Mrs. Clara Pearson, 32 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Old Grandma was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery at Swedeburg, Thursday afternoon, May 22.
