    Notes:

Carl is a pivotal figure in the Rudeen family history. As far as I know, he was the first to come to America, and the first to take the name "Rudeen".

Although Carl was born in Frinnaryd parish, he moved to Marbäck parish as an infant and grew up at the Eket farm.

At age 18, he moved to Askeryd parish where he met his wife, Sophia Matilda Carlsdotter.

He left Sweden in 1868 with his wife and two daughters, according to moving-out papers.

He and his family appear in the 1870 census in the town of Altona (Knox County, IL). He works for the railroad.

According to the history of the Bethlehem Covenant Church, he arrived in Lancaster County in 1872.

The oldest daughter, Augusta Mathilda Carlsdotter (also took Rudeen as maiden name in America) married John August Samuelson. Their oldest daughter was Nannie Victoria Samuelson, and her daughter is Martha Burch. Martha has her mother's genealogy information. Martha Burch's address is 2715 48th St., Dickinson, TX 77539. (Martha would be a third cousin of Florence ElDorado and Stan Rudeen.)

    (Research):«u»General Reserach Topics for Carl:«/u»

    - Is it possible to confirm that the railroad company he worked for in Knox County, IL financed his family's trip to America?

    - The 1870 census shows a Frank Rhodein (same spelling as Carl) living next door. Is this a relative?

    - It appears that a group of people from Askeryd (his wife's ancestral parish) emigrated together and may have even ended up together in Lancaster County. Would be interesting to trace their movements as a group. There may be possible family connections, especially through Carl's wife's family.

    - It would be good to track all of Carl's nieces and nephews to see who came to America. We know for certain that Gust and two sisters did, as well as another nephew John Rudeen (son of Carl's sister Sophia).

Carl married Sophia Mathilda Carlsdotter in 1858 in Askeryd, Jönköping, Sweden. Sophia was born on 16 Apr 1844 in Askeryd, Jönköping, Sweden; died on 5 Mar 1921 in Rock Creek, Lancaster, Nebraska, USA; was buried in Rock Creek, Lancaster, Nebraska, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
