Johnson, Alvena "Millie"
Alvena "Millie" Johnson, 89, Wahoo, widow of Norris J., died Friday, December 4, 2009 in Wahoo. She was born 4/15/1920 in Wahoo, to Alvin R. and Alvera A. (Brostrom) Walin. Millie worked at Mead Bank, Ceresco Bank, and at Federated Finance in LiLincoln after graduating from Luther Academy in Wahoo and attending Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS for one semester. On 2/27/1946, she married Norris J. Johnson at Swedeburg, Neb.. Millie was bookkeeper at Wahoo Clinic for 15 years, assisted in the Luther College Alumni Office and was organist at both Grace Lutheran and Immanuel Lutheran Churches for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; step-father, Arthur E. Larson; bothers, Archie and Glenn Larson. She is survived by sons, Harvey D. (Trish) Johnson, Seward, Kerry L. Johnson, Lincoln; brother, Rev. Lester Larson, Sequin, Texas; sister-in-law, Helen E. Johnson, Ceresco; granddaughters, Kathryn Johnson, Seattle, Wash., Ann Johnson, St. Paul, Minn.

Marriage Ceremony for Alvena Larson and Norris Johnson
White tappers in seven branch candelabra lighted the Grace Lutheran Church at Swedeburg on Wednesday evening for the marriage ceremony of Miss Alvena Larson and Mr. Norris Johnson. Tall baskets of mixed flowers flanked the altar. The tapperse lighted by Miss Betty Ann Pearson and Douglas Peterson. The wedding music of Lohengrin and Mendelsohn was played by Eunice Olson. Preceding the ceremony, Bette Thelander and Lois Monson sang, "Beloved, it is Morn," and "Saviour, Like A Shephard Lead Us" while the couple was at the altar. Dr. A. J. Johnson, pastor at the church, performed the ceremony in the presence of 135 guests.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of Duchess satin with a basque bodice, and sweetheart neckline. The full bouffant skirt had a wide Victorian train. Her lace edged vail was of finger-tip length and she carried white callillies. The gold heart-shaped locket, a gift of the groom, was her only jewelry.
As Matron of Honor, Mrs. Glen Larson, sister-in-law of the bride, wore a green jacquarde brocade. She carried pinks and white carnations. Little Barbara Jean Johnson, niece of the groom, attended as flower girl wearing a pink satin formal anarried sweetpeas.
The groom was attended by his brother, Clayton Johnson. The ushers were Glen Larson and Dwain Benson. All wore white carnation boutonnieres.
At the reception held in the church parlors immediately following the ceremony, a tiered wedding cake centered the table at which Maxine and Ardis Peterson presided. Mrs. Duryea Olson was in charge of the dining room and Marion and Viola Wid, Laurel Nelson and Paul Heiser, all cousins of the bride, served as waitressess and waiters. Mrs. Ralph Peterson had charge of the guest book and Frances Johnson and Mrs. Leonard Palm presided over the gift table.
The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Larson of Swedeburg has been employed at the Federated Finance Company in Lincoln and also served as organist at the Grace Lutheran Church. The groom, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Johnson of Cerescos engaged in farming and they will reside on a farm southeast of Ceresco.
