On this date (January 13) in 1782, my 4x great-grandfather, Isaac Hultman, was born at Hellevedsqvarn in Norra Sandsjö parish in Sweden.
One of the more memorable moments of our Sweden trip was visiting the ruins of the Hellevedsqvarn (also spelled Hällevedsqvarn) mill. Isaac was born there, where his father was the miller. Isaac himself was a farmer. He married and had six children. He died young at the age of 45; the cause of death was “mortification” (likely some time of gangrene).
His oldest son Jonas Peter Hultman emigrated to the United States in 1854 with his wife and children and eventually settled in Randolph, Kansas.
Here is a photo gallery of our visit to the mill where Isaac was born.
