In June of 1897, Edward and Ida took out a mortgage in the amount of $2,268.85 for their 80-acre farm in Green Precinct, Saunders County, Nebraska. The money was borrowed from Shaler Wells. I’m not sure whether he was the previous owner of the property or some other third party. It was a six-year note at 6% interest.
They were apparently good for the loan as this became Edward and Ida’s family farm. The 1918 Saunders County atlas shows them still living there, as do all census records from 1900 through 1930.
