Lois Gjerdingen March 24, 1929 - May 26, 2011

WILLMAR -- Lois Shirley Ann Gjerdingen, 82, of Willmar died Thursday at Rice Memorial Hospital.

Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Interment will be in Eagle Lake Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home of Willmar.

Lois Shirley Ann Gjerdingen was born March 24, 1929, in Sauk Centre, the daughter of Simon and Alma (Peterson) Holmes. She grew up in Sauk Centre, was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1947.

On Feb. 24, 1951, Lois was united in marriage to Orville J. Gjerdingen. They lived in various parts of the United Stated while Orville served in the military during the Korean War. In 1954, they moved to Willmar. Lois was employed at the Willmar Regional Treatment Center for over 37 years, retiring in 1991 as head seamstress. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Lois enjoyed various outdoor activities, cooking, baking and entertaining her family and friends.

She is survived by her two children, Greg Gjerdingen and Nola (and Dennis) Woltjer, both of Willmar; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Adrian "Bubby" (and Eleanore) Holm of Sauk Centre; and three sisters, Evelyn (and Roy) Emmeck of South Carolina, Vivian Doege of Jensen Beach, Fla., and Lela (and Ted) Borg of Hopkins, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Emil, Earl, Herman and Gordon; and three sisters, Amanda, Sylvia and Clara in infancy.
