Joseph and Josepha Rademacher

January 30, 2010 by karen

Joseph and Josepha emigrated from Germany in 1878. We are most familiar with them from the iconic Rademacher family photo from 1920:

Rademacher Family - 1920

This photo was taken on their 50th wedding anniversary. Joseph was 77 years old at the time, and Josepha was 70.

I am struck by how handsome their children are. For example, click on the photo and take a good look at Helena (middle row, second from left – click on the photo to pull up a larger size version). She could be a model!
We have one other set of photos for Joseph and Josepha Rademacher. These photos are from the Crete ‘Red Book’. The men and women of the Sacred Heart parish posed in separate group photos. I zoomed on Joseph and Josepha in each of the group photos. The photos are undated, but I would guess they are about 10-15 years earlier than the family photo. I think you can better see why their children are all so good-looking.
Here is Joseph (Dale thinks he looks a little scary but I think he’s handsome):

And here is Josepha:

Speaking of good-looking Rademacher people, tonight one of our Rademacher cousins, Katie Layman, will be competing as Miss Colorado in the Miss America Pageant (televised on TLC at 6pm MT). Katie is the daughter of Phyllis Rademacher Layman, and Phyllis is a great-grandaughter of Joseph and Josepha Rademacher.
